A few months ago, I opened TikTok ready to doom scroll, as one does, and got smacked in the face with art. The algorithm served me this deliciously ethereal video by lihpam aka SassyLexi lip-syncing to a version of “Get in the Water” from Epic: The Musical, decked out in absolutely stunning siren makeup. Hauntingly beautiful!
Epic: The Musical is an original musical adaptation of Homer’s Odyssey created by Jorge Rivera-Herrans. It’s been taking the internet by storm and has developed quite the cult following as far as I know.
Get in the Water is the fourth song of The Vengeance Saga during which Poseidon appears before Odysseus to finally claim him. The final musical version, Poseidon is voiced by Steven Rodriguez, and while it sounds absolutely epic, Morgan Clae’s version hit me in the soul. Her vocals are filled with this raw female rage that dug its way into my brain and set up camp. I was obsessed for weeks and it even inspired my own creepy siren makeup.

Fast-forward to now, I’ve started a little digital garden where I collect anything that inspires or emotionally resonates with me. When I went back to track down that siren TikTok for the garden, I somehow ended up deep in a rabbit hole and at the bottom of it, I found LUNAIIRA: Soul’s Rift.
LUNAIIRA: Soul’s Rift is an 8-episode high fantasy musical created by Morgan Clae and artist Samantha Timple. It’s a tale about truth, resistance, sisterhood, and fighting for change in a world where magic is real but so is oppression.
Think queer romance, femmes of color, powerful music and a battle against unjust systems. Basically, it’s everything I love in one glittering, dramatic audio package.
It’s fully scored, voice-acted and being released for free as a podcast series. But quality magic takes funding, so the team is raising money to finish production and pay the cast and crew. Sadly, I don’t have the funds to pledge right now, but what I can do is shout this from the rooftops (or my blog).
If the teaser for this musical moves you even half as much as lihpam’s TikTok moved me, please consider supporting this Kickstarter campaign. Or share it. Or scream about it on the internet like I am right now.
The world needs more queer fantasy musicals with sirens and swords and songs that haunt your dreams. 💜
